Dylan Simmons held the opposition to two hits, and Kishon Frett homered early to set the tone as the Trinity Christian Academy Conquerors won the Class 4A, Region 2 Final 7-2 over the visiting Eagles from the Episcopal School of Jacksonville.
Simmons (W: 7-2, 2.69 ERA) allowed two earned runs on two hits and three walks through 6 2/3 innings pitched. He allowed only a single to Matt Kamaroski leading off the top of the third and a base hit to Clayton Hodges with two outs in the seventh before departing the mound. Simmons struck out 10 Eagles, including the first three batters he faced. His final two outs in the seventh also came on strikes.
Simmons additionally drove in a run in the bottom of the fourth with a line-drive sacrifice fly to center that brought home Justin Simmons, who led off with a bunt single. An overthrow on the bunt allowed Justin to advance all the way to third, and Dylan delivered one out later.
Trinity started the scoring in the bottom of the first. Bryan Muniz led off with a base hit and stole both second and third. His swipe of third was part of a double steal when Conner Aldrich (walk) trailed into second. Muniz then scored on an error.
After Episcopal's Hunter Russell caught Aldrich off second, Frett launched a solo shot (#6, 5th official) well over the left-field fence to give the Conquerors a 2-0 lead.
Frett added his second RBI of the night with a base hit in the third to start a three-run rally. Dawson Fietsam and Ethan Dage had consecutive RBI singles with two outs to give the Conquerors a comfortable 5-0 lead.
Trinity added one more run in the sixth when Muniz squeezed home Jared Donald, who led off with a walk. Trinity led 6-1 at that point.
Episcopal got single runs in the sixth and seventh. Langston Hardy's RBI fielder's choice in the sixth plated Hodges (walk), but Simmons struck out the next man to end a bases-loaded threat. Hodges's base hit in the seventh drove in Ershod Jasey with the game's final run.
Justin Parrish relieved Simmons with two outs and Hodges on first. Hodges stole second, but Parrish then struck out the only man he faced to end the game and help put the Conquerors back into the 4A Final Four.
Muniz and Frett each had two hits for Trinity and were two of the five Conquerors who drove in runs.
