TCA Conquerors Baseball returned to the field Monday night after a week off to face a very tough Class 6A American Heritage Patriots team from Plantation, Florida. Trinity got a run in the bottom of the first to tie the score, but American Heritage had a three-run second and did not relinquish that lead as the Patriots won the game 7-2.
Conner Aldrich singled home Dawson Fietsam in the first to tie the score at 1-1. Fiestam drew a one-out walk and advanced first to third on a pick-off throw that went wild. Aldrich then laced a single into center to score the run.
Trinity scored again in the sixth on Tyson Tucker's looper down the left-field line to drive home Dylan Simmons, who led off the inning with his second double of the night. Reliever Juhlien Gonzalez, however, would not allow another run to score as he closed out the sixth and then the game one inning later.
American heritage got four RBI from Jordan Carrion on two separate singles in the second and sixth. The Patriots scored an unearned run in the first, three runs (one earned) in the second, one in the fifth, and two more in the sixth to put up the game's final score. Gonzales, Gavin Casas, and Gavin Smith all drove in runs as well. Casas had the official game-winning RBI safety squeeze in the second that put that Patriots ahead to stay.
American Heritage's Devin Futrell pitched 4 2/3 innings, allowing one unearned run on three hits, no walks, and three strikeouts to earn the win. Justin Parrish took the loss for the Conquerors, allowing five runs (two earned) on four hits, no walks, and two strikeouts in 4 1/3 innings.
The Conquerors will host George Jenkins (Lakeland, FL) Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. Trinity will then play a huge district game at Providence at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, March 29. The trip to the Bishop Gorman Invitational in Las Vegas, Nevada, follows from April 1-5.
