Dreshawn Dawkins used his hands and his legs to lead Trinity Christian Academy to victory as the Conquerors defeated district opponent Ponte Vedra High School 35-7 Friday night to remain undefeated with one regular-season game left to play.
Dawkins scored on touchdown receptions of 63 and 74 yards, respectively, as part of his 3-catch, 152-yard performance. He scored Trinity’s first touchdown of the night when quarterback Jacory Jordan hit him on the right sideline on first down at the Conquerors’ 37 on Trinity’s first offensive drive, which followed the defense’s stop of Ponte Verda that culminated in a turnover on downs. Dawkins caught the ball at midfield and scurried untouched the entire way to give Trinity a 7-0 lead.
The Sharks’ Caden Fordham returned the opening kickoff 62 yards to the Trinity 32, but the Ponte Vedra offense failed to pick up a first down and then missed a chance at a field goal after a fumbled snap. Fordham returned four kickoffs overall for 136 yards. He also punted four times for a total of 110 yards.
Dawkins made his 74-yard touchdown catch in the third quarter on a short pass to the left sideline and repeated his scurry untouched for the distance. He also had a 15-yard reception sandwiched in between his two scores.
Jordan threw four touchdown passes overall with the other two coming to wide receiver Isaiah Washington on a 14-yard pass midway through the second quarter and a 19-yarder to Washington early in the third. On both plays, the 6’-3” receiver outjumped his defender and pulled the ball down in the corner of the end zone.
Jordan was 12 for 21 on the night for 280 yards, four touchdowns, and an interception while Washington caught five passes for 98 yards and two scores.
Marcus Crowley scored his 18th touchdown of the season on a 9-yard run with 4:54 left in the first quarter. Crowley had 134 yards on 17 carries overall and lined up at wide receiver several times in the second half.
