JV Basketball: Conquerors Fall to Westside in Exciting Match-Up

JV: Westside 51, Conquerors 41
Tomarion McCray led all scorers with 19 points on six field goals and a free throw. McCray scored 13 of his game-high total in the first half. Khori Jones followed with 12 points, including a pair of three-pointers. Jones gave the Conquerors the lead early on with a three and connected again in the second quarter. Jacqary Sineus and R.J. Albury each totaled five points. Albury had a three and deuce, and Sineus sank a field goal and three consecutive free throws in the third quarter.
The first half was back-and-forth throughout. Westside had a run late in the first quarter to take 10-5 lead, and the Conquerors finished the period with a 5-2 run to pull to within 2 at 12-10 by quarter's end.
Both teams had seven-point runs in the second. Trinity's came first to give the Conquerors a lead at 17-12 before Westside scored seven straight to reclaim lead. Trinity got the last basket to tie the scores at 19-all heading into the halftime intermission.
Westside, though pulled away in the third quarter. The Wolverines took advantage of opportunities and outscored Trinity 17-10 by getting points from four different players. Afeyohn Miller led the Wolverines with 17 total points and got six of them in Westside's strong third quarter. Keshon Porter sank 5 of his 13 in the third period as well. Westside then held off a Trinity comeback effort and put up the final 10-point margin of victory.
Justin Cobb reached double digits with 10 points, and Tiko Johnson scored 6 to help lead Westside.
