The Conquerors scored in every inning, and the pitching was nearly flawless as Trinity Christian Academy Softball won the Region 1 semifinal 10-0 in five innings over the visiting Seminoles of FSU High School Thursday night at Trinity.
The Conquerors scored multiple runs in each of the first four innings and the game-ending run in the bottom of the fifth.
Alexis Ross opened the game with a triple and scored on a passed ball. Mackenzie Marrell later drove in Amaya Ross (single) to make the score 2-0 by the end of the first inning.
Alexis Ross tripled again in the second, this time bringing in two runs when Natalia Burnsed and Breezy Burnett (both singled) crossed. Ross then scored on an error, and the Conquerors were well on their way to victory.
A two-run sacrifice fly from Linzie LaFavor put the game out of reach at 7-0 in the third; the Conquerors added two more in the fourth and the game ending tally in the fifth when LaFavor came in on Burnsed’s RBI single.
Burnsed finished the night 2 for 3 with 1 RBI and 1 run scored while Alexis Ross had a final line of 2 for 3, 2 3B, 3 R, and 2 RBI. Morgan McMillian also had two hits, a run scored, and a run driven in; and LaFavor drove in two runs overall.
Bailey Cooley (W: 15-6, 2.22 ERA) allowed only one hit through five innings to earn the complete-game victory. Cooley walked one and struck out four while getting 67% of her pitches in for strikes.
The Conquerors (18-6) will have a rematch with Providence (16-10) at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 14, in the Region 1 final. The game is at Trinity, and the Conquerors will attempt to reach the state Final Four for the fourth consecutive year. Providence will look to avenge a 2-1 loss to the Conquerors in the May 2 district championship game after defeating North Bay Haven Academy 8-0 in the other Region 1 semifinal Thursday night.
