Cameron Anderson and Miles Burris combined for 24 of the team's 38 points as the Middle School Conquerors defeated the rivaled Fighting Christians of University Christian School 38-23 Tuesday evening on the home court.
Anderson scored the game-high 14 points with 12 of them coming in the first half. Anderson sank five field goals and four free throws to compile his game-leading total. He started the scoring immediately after UC won the opening tip-off with a steal, a fast break, a lay-up that drew a foul, and a successful free throw to give the Conquerors a very early lead they would never relinquish. In fact, Trinity scored 12 more points in the first quarter while holding the Christians to only 2 to take a commanding 15-2 lead after the first six minutes.
University, though, came back with a strong second quarter, outscoring the Conquerors 12-6 most of the way. Trinity, though, finished the period with a five-point rally and took a 26-14 lead into halftime.
After the break, Burris put up two quick baskets early in the third period to finish off his 10-point performance. A low-scoring third quarter (7-4 Trinity) resulted in a 33-18 lead after three, and the Conquerors' reserves scored the game's final five points to help put up the final score.
Elijah Crocker contributed five points in the win while the remaining Conquerors combined for nine. University's Gilley tied Anderson for the game-high total of 14 points on four deuces and six free throws.
The Conquerors have four games remaining in the regular season. They will play at Episcopal and Bolles on January 13 and 14, respectively, then end the season with home games versus St. Johns Country Day School on January 17 and Bolles on January 21.
The Independent Middle School Conference tournament will take place between February 4-7.
