Trinity Christian Academy Conquerors Middle School Football defeated University Christian 14-6 Tuesday night on the Southside, coming from behind 6-0 at the half, thanks to two touchdowns from eighth-grader Cameron Anderson and a clutch two-point conversion.
Here is how Coach Chase Owens described the comeback:
"We got a fourth-down stop at the one in the first quarter and then threw a pick six, our only surrendered points.
We battled back and forth to halftime, where we were down 0-6. We challenged the kids at the half to come out with high energy and give everything they had. We made some adjustments as coaches, and the players then went out, executed, and scored on our second drive of the half to tie the game up.
We continued to get stops on defense, and then Michael Sterdivent got a strip sack with four minutes left in the fourth. Cam Anderson scored the go-ahead touchdown with 2 minutes left, his second touchdown of the night. Miles Burris threw the 2-point conversion to put us up 14-6.
We then stopped UC in four downs to win the game.
Cam was moved to running back last week and has FIVE touchdowns in two games. The offensive line had a night-and-day game: terrible first half and dominating second half.
Overall, it was a great team win against UC to avenge our only loss on the season."
The Middle School Conquerors are now 2-1 on the season. Trinity will next play at HOME versus Yulee at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 24.
