Rylee Aspinwall had three hits in three at bats, drove in two runs, and scored twice as the TCA Varsity Softball Conquerors defeated 5A Suwannee High School 15-6 in six innings Monday night.
Aspinwall (above) beat out a bunt single in the third and scored later in the inning. She then had consecutive RBI singles into right in her final two at bats in the third and fifth.
The Conquerors scored five times in the second thanks to Lindsey Smith's RBI single, Reagan Griffis's RBI bunt single, Amaya Ross's two-run base hit, and a passed ball that scored Griffis. Morgan McMillian, Smith, Aspinwall, Ross, and Griffis all crossed the plate in succession in the second-inning rally.
Suwannee fought back for three runs in the top of the third. Karis Smith (single) and Natalie Robinson (hit by pitch) each drove in runs, and Smith scored on a wild pitch. Suwannee then got its final run in the fourth on Carson Frier's RBI double that plated Emma-Rae Byers.
By that point, however, Trinity had extended its lead to 9-3 a half-inning earlier with a four-run bottom of the third. The Conquerors then added two in the fifth and four in the sixth to win it.
The game ended on a two-out, two-run error off the bat of Amaya Ross. A fly ball into right hit off the glove and landed safely to allow Alexis Ross (playing in her first game after returning from injury) and Griffis to score and put the Conquerors ahead by 11.
Bailey Cooley (W: 4-0, 1.75 ERA) pitched three innings, allowing three earned runs on six hits. She walked one and struck out two. McMillian (S: 1) pitched the final three innings, long enough to qualify for the save. McMillian allowed one earned run on three hits and two walks.
Cooley, Alexis Ross, McMillian, and Smith each had two hits while Alexis Ross, Griffis (2), Amaya Ross (2), Cooley (2), Smith (2), and Aspinwall (2) all drove in runs.
The Conquerors will next play at the Montevedre Tournament in the Orlando area from Thursday to Saturday, March 7-9. Trinity will begin the tournament by playing East Lake High School at 1:30 p.m. EST on Thursday. A win will have Trinity playing at 7:30 p.m. on Friday whereas a Thursday loss means a 5:30 p.m. game time on Friday.
