Lindsey Smith homered twice, and Breezy Burnett went deep also as Trinity Christian Academy Softball got another district win by defeating Baldwin 9-2 on the road Monday night at Baldwin.
With runners at first and second and one out in the top of the fourth, Smith launched a three-run shot (1) over the center-field fence to score Bailey Cooley (double) and Morgan McMillan (walk) ahead of her. The Conquerors took control from that point on.
Smith homered again (2) in the fifth to make the score 5-1 and finished the night with a line of 3 for 4, 2 HR, 2 R, and 4 RBI.
Burnett added a two-run home run (1) in the top of the seventh to put up the game's final tally as part of her 2-for-4, 2-RBI performance.
Cooley did the job both on the mound and at the plate. As a pitcher, Cooley (W: 8-4, 2.69 ERA) went the distance, allowing one earned run on three hits while walking one and striking out six. As a hitter, she was 2 for 4 with a two-run double in the sixth that plated Mackenzie Marrell and Hannah Rivers.
Marrell started the scoring with an RBI ground ball in the first and later collected two hits while Riley Aspinwall and Alexis Ross (2 for 5) also hit safely for the Conquerors.
Baldwin's Caitlyn Boalch homered in the bottom of the fourth for the Indians' lone run, but Cooley allowed only two more singles in the entire game.
The "Diamond Divas" (10-5 overall, 3-0 in 4A, District 2) will play another district game when they visit Bishop Snyder (3-7, 0-4) at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, March 29. A trip to Bolles will follow on April 2 before the Conquerors play another district game at Episcopal on Thursday, April 4.
