TCA Softball played its final games of the regular season Saturday afternoon, and the Lady Conquerors finished with a flurry by winning twice in Ocala. In Game 1, Trinity defeated Class 6A Belleview 6-2. Game 2 saw the Conquerors win 4-0 over Class 8A Ocala Forest.
Game 1: Trinity 6, Belleview 2
Alexis Ross was 3 for 4 with 1 RBI, and Morgan McMillian doubled twice and scored twice in Trinity's first win of the day. Linzie LaFavor drove in two runs with a 2-for-3 performance while Reagan Griffis scored a run and drove in another.
Both teams scored in the second. LaFavor drove in McMillian with a base hit to put the Conquerors on the board, and Belleview's Keirstyn Kohlmaier responded with a run-scoring single of her own.
A four-run top of the fourth proved the margin of victory. In that big inning, LaFavor's double broke a 1-1 tie when McMillian (double) crossed the plate. Trinity added three more on Ross's RBI ground ball to score courtesy runner Hannah Rivers. Breezy Burnette (walk) then came in when Griffis singled, and Mackenzie Marrell's ground ball for an error allowed Griffis to score. By the inning's end, Trinity led by four.
The score remained 5-1 until the top of the seventh when Marrell reached on an error and eventually came in on a passed ball. Kholmaier scored for Belleview on Kaylah Gardner's ground ball to put up the game's final run, but McMillian then struck out the last batter to secure Trinity's win.
Bailey Cooley (W: 12-6, 2.53 ERA) pitched six innings and allowed only two unearned runs on three hits. She walked no one and fanned eight.
Game 2: Trinity 4, Ocala Forest 0
Without a break in between games, the Conquerors came right back to shut out Class 8A Ocala Forest 4-0. Alexis Ross and Amaya Ross combined for 4 hits, 3 runs, and 2 RBI while Marrell and McMillian each drove in a run as well.
The Conquerors started the scoring immediately. Alexis Ross led off the game with a double, advanced to third on Griffis's sacrifice bunt, and scored the first run on Amaya Ross's bunt single. Amaya Ross then advanced to second base, tagged and took third on Marrell's fly ball, and scored on McMillian's base hit.
Trinity then got single runs in each of the third and fifth innings. Marrell doubled in Griffis (single) in the third, and Amaya Ross drove in Alexis Ross with a base hit two innings later to make the score 4-0.
McMillian (W: 5-1, 0.88) allowed only two hits through six innings of work while walking five and striking out four. Cooley (S: 2) entered with two on and nobody out in the seventh and immediately induced a double-play ground ball and a flyout to Burnett in left to end the game and earn the save.
End of Regular Season
The Conquerors finish the regular season by winning three of four games throughout the week. Trinity also defeated 5A West Nassau 7-5 on April 18 in a seesaw affair after dropping a terrific pitchers' duel 3-2 to 7A powerhouse Creekside on April 16.
