Anthony Bucci was the star of the game while Noah Couch and Justin Simmons each drove in a pair as the Conquerors scored an even dozen at Fletcher High School Saturday afternoon in Neptune Beach. The Conquerors scored multiple runs in three straight innings and at least one in six of seven overall to win it 12-2.
Bucci was 2 for 2 plus a walk, and his 4 RBI paved the way for the Conquerors to earn the big win on the road. Bucci laid down a squeeze bunt in the top of the second to give the Conquerors the early 1-0 lead and himself the official game-winning RBI. In the third, he doubled in two with a shot down the left-field line, and he brought home his fourth of the night with a bases-loaded walk in the top of the fourth.
Couch smacked a two-run double in Trinity's four-run fourth that allowed C.J. Crawford (single) and Logan Ethridge (walk) to cross the plate and put the game out of reach. Trinity led 8-0 at that point, but the offense was not finished. Crawford doubled in Ashton Nugent in the fifth, Simmons got his second RBI base hit in the sixth, and Denver Wood capped the offensive outburst with a sacrifice fly in the seventh.
Simmons got his first RBI single in the second immediately after Bucci's squeeze bunt that plated Eric Fouraker (double). Simmons knocked in Alonzo Austin (walk) to make the score 2-0, and the Conquerors poured it on from there.
Fouraker (walk) and Austin (hit by pitch) both scored on Bucci's double right after Garrett Sigley (pinch runner) scored on a passed ball. Fouraker later drew a bases-loaded free pass to start the scoring in Trinity's big fourth inning.
Fletcher broke up the shutout with two unearned runs in the bottom of the fourth. A RBI ground ball and a two-out error made the score 9-2, but starter Bryce Janney (W: 2-0, 1.00 ERA) made sure the Pirates did not score again.
Janney pitched six innings, allowing only two unearned runs on four hits. He walked two and struck out five. Kanyan James finished the day with a scoreless seventh and fanned two of the three men he faced.
Eight different Conquerors hit safely with Bucci, Crawford, and Simmons doing so twice each.
The Conquerors (2-4) will play their next three games on the road at Terry Parker on March 10, Ridgview on March 12, and North Florida Christian (Tallahassee) on March 13. The first regular-season home game is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. EDT on Thursday, March 19, against Spruce Creek (Port Orange) as Game 1 of the annual Tournament of Champions held at TCA. Williston and Melbourne Central Catholic will follow at home on March 20 and 21, respectively.
